Al-Zayyani records among the events of 1155 AH that Sultan Mawlay ʿAbd Allah b. Ismaʿil sent with the pilgrim caravan twenty-three Qur’ans, “large and small, all adorned with gold and set with pearls and rubies”, among them “the great ʿUqbani Qur’an” attributed to ʿUqba b. Nafiʿ, which the kings had handed down. We have found none of them whose whereabouts is known today.
