- Calligrapher
- Ahmad b. al-Husayn al-Bahawi al-Susi (d. 28 May 2000 CE), brother of the calligrapher Muhammad al-Bahawi, author of the Taʿlim al-khatt copybooks printed in Spain in 1949. Al-Manuni called him Muhammad by mistake, as Omar Afa and Mohamed al-Maghrawi point out
- Ordered by
- King Hassan II
- Printing
- Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs, 1400 AH / 1980 CE, according to Afa and al-Maghrawi. The description of an exhibition of the Rabita Muhammadiyya of ʿUlama mentions two earlier editions, in 1387 AH / 1967 CE and 1395 AH / 1975 CE
Omar Afa and Mohamed al-Maghrawi write: «ومن الأعمال الخالدة التي عرفتها هذه المرحلة إنجاز المصحف الحسني بأمر ملكي سام في عهد المغفور له الملك الحسن الثاني، أشرفت على طبعه وزارة الأوقاف والشؤون الإسلامية سنة 1400هـ / 1980م», “Among the lasting works of this period was the making of al-Mushaf al-Hasani by royal order in the reign of the late King Hassan II, printed under the supervision of the Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs in 1400 AH / 1980 CE”, and they say that al-Bahawi «نال شرف كتابة المصحف الحسني في بداية السبعينيات», “had the honour of writing al-Mushaf al-Hasani in the early seventies”. He wrote it in mabsūṭ script, and it made the name «المصحف الحسني», al-Mushaf al-Hasani, well known. When it was reprinted in 1417 AH, the royal order stated that the new edition «تمتاز على الطبعات السابقة بتسبيعها», “excels the earlier editions by its division into sevenths”, so the Musabbaʿ Qur’an below is a new edition of al-Mushaf al-Hasani in other hands.
Printed, not manuscript. We included it because its calligrapher is known and the date of its printing is certain.
